The
Chilkotin is a land of log cabins and wood smoke, snake fences,
and slower time zones. Seldom visited and largely untouched, the Chilkotin
is like a rare gem. Few people have discovered it, but once discovered
it is rarely forgotten. There are very few areas in the world as beautiful
to explore.
Chilko Lake is the largest high level, natural body of water in North America and has crystal clean turquoise blue waters that are home and spawning grounds to Chinook and Sockeye Salmon as well as native Rainbow trout and Dolly Varden char.
Beginning in late fall, hundreds of thousands of Sockeye Salmon will spawn at the north end of Chilko Lake. This grand spectacle is one of the worlds's largest runs and lasts until mid-October. During this run, trophy sized Rainbow trout and Dolly Varden is in abundance, attracted by the Salmon roe. Fly-fishing doesn't get much better than this!
