40 miles in length and 7 miles across at its mouth, this fjord-like inlet acts as a funnel for large numbers of Chinook (King) Salmon migrating toward their spawning streams at the head of Rivers Inlet.
This river has the distinction of yielding the largest Chinook (84 lbs.) ever caught recreationally. Early July to mid August is the best time to hunt for these trophy-sized Salmon.
From mid August until September 7 waves of huge Northern Coho (Silver) Salmon pass through the area thanks to an aggressive hatchery program. This species of Salmon provide one of the most rewarding sports fishing opportunities particularly when taken on a fly rod. Northern Coho can reach 20+ lbs. and fight like fish twice that weight!
